This version has evolved, updated photos, changed layouts. It’s tighter and gets straight to the point. It brings the personal and professional sides of the work closer together. -JP

This ‘International Edition’ - has about a dozen less pages, but more content. How did we do that? We totally deleted some material that would date, and took some posters that had their own page and instead made them 4-to-a-page. It didn’t reduce their impact at all. Dimensions remain the same.

It was then possible to actually add extra images that weren’t available first time around, and for JF to expand some of the narrative. Some of this new material is fresh, right up to the moment of sending to the printers. We also adjusted the chronological order for better flow.

While we found around 40 typographical errors in the first edition, only 2 factual mistakes were reported to us - now all corrected. Also, the whole story of an EP release by Deniz Tek was contentious - Deniz & I had totally different recollections. In deference, I suggested we simply delete that in future editions and replace it with something fresher - and so we have.

This new edition is strong in different ways, and perhaps more appealing to a broader audience. -JF

Utilising the rock posters of Skull Printworks and graphics of Red Eye and Black Eye Records, the book documents the unusual career path of designer and reluctant record executive, John Foy. It’s a personal journal that traverses his experiences in the original 70’s Punk era, legendary record stores, trading 60’s psychedelic posters, as well as more recent exploits.

With humour as weapon of choice, Foy establishes facts and dispels myths, as he interweaves his experiences with sociological observations of the times.

Along with notorious performers Thug, familiar entities like The Cruel Sea, Clouds, Steve Kilbey, Beasts of Bourbon, Deniz Tek and Kim Salmon - are revealed in a wealth of previously unseen images. Specially featured photographers include: Tony Mott, Linda Nolte, Geoff Aitken, Tom Takas, Kim Sandeman, Russell Kilbey and Stephen Best – amongst others. Rich in colour throughout, the visuals of ‘Snaps, Crack & Pop!’ have been brilliantly realised by former Red Eye art director Jim Paton.
